A nail polish collection inspired by New Orleans? Erm, yes please! Thank the beauty gods for the OPI New Orleans collection then!
As you many already know, I had the pleasure of celebrating New Year’s Eve in New Orleans recently as part of my Trek America tour. I also got to explore this fun city in all of its glory and instantly fell in love with it and I’m now longing to go back very soon. But I have the OPI New Orleans nail polish collection as consolation…
When I found out that OPI had created a collection inspired by New Orleans to coincide with Mardi Gras, I felt like having a Mardi Gras celebration of my own as I was that excited! Especially since I’ve been a bit stuck in a nail polish rut recently and I’ve just been thinking of some new colours to try out. My nails haven’t really had any TLC recently and haven’t had any polish on them for quite a while now. So what better way to give them a new lease of life than with these gorgeous colours?
The OPI New Orleans collection of nail polishes consists of 12 shades which are inspired by New Orleans. I love these colours. I think that they perfectly capture the whole vibe and culture of the Deep South. The biggest challenge was picking my favourite shades out of the 12 of the collection, all of which just scream spring/summer! I was so spoilt for choice! And of course, in true OPI fashion, each of the nail lacquers have very witty, pun-tastic names, which I love. Some of them really do crack me up!
As you can tell by the visuals of this blog, I absolutely love the colour purple, so I Manicure For Beads is the one I’m drawn to the most. I could see myself wearing it during a night out in the French Quarter! I also think that berry shades have always been perfect transitioning shades from winter to spring. That’s why Spare Me a French Quarter comes in as my second favourite as it’s perfect for adding a pop of colour to any outfit. Humidi-tea, a salmon-pink/nude shade, is the most versatile, as it will go with basically any outfit in your wardrobe and is perfect for going from day to night.
They have excellent application. The colours come out very vivid and also chip resistant so they’ll stay put for days. They’re also really shiny and glossy but you might want to add a top coat for that extra staying power.
With Humidi-tea and Show Us Your Tips!, I had to apply an extra coat in order to make sure it was opaque. Show Us Your Tips! had a gorgeous iridescent shimmer once it was opaque.
Here are a few swatches so you can see how they look with my skintone:
As soon as I put it on, I wanted to be transported back to New Orleans exploring the French Quarter, strolling along Bourbon Street and eating yummy shrimp creole all over again.
What are your favourite shades from the OPI New Orleans collection? I’d love to hear your thoughts and whether you’d try them out yourselves…
