After experiencing the Cameron Highlands, we arrived for New Year celebrations in Kuala Lumpur during the Malaysian leg of the tour.
I have to say though that this was the worst accommodation of the entire trip. The hotel was very dark and dingy, not very welcoming, the décor was very outdated and there was lack of space. I just didn’t like it. But, hey, it was absolute basic accommodation which is what we all paid for. After taking a stroll through the markets, it was time for New Year in Kuala Lumpur.
After getting slightly dolled up, we went to the Helipad bar for a couple of drinks and got some of the most amazing views of the Petronas Towers and the Kuala Lumpur cityscape. The Petronas Towers looked particularly beautiful all lit up at night.
After a bit of walking around and getting quite a few snaps, we then headed to Petronas Towers and sat in front to ring in the New Year. We thought we were going to get a good view of the fireworks at the towers but we only found out the fireworks were behind us! Crazy plot twist!
On New Year’s Day, we headed out on the subway to the Batu Caves, which is the site of a Hindu temple and shrine. Yes I actually did climb all those steps! It was a real workout.
Once we got up to the top we saw lots of little monkeys in the cave.
Inside the Caves
After a day out to the Batu Caves we went out for dinner at a really nice restaurant (which I can’t remember the name of) where I tucked into some delicious shrimps.
The next morning, after lunch at Nando’s, it was time to say goodbye to Kuala Lumpur and head to Melaka for our final night in Malaysia.
Stay tuned for more on my journey through Bangkok to Singapore…
Have you been to Kuala Lumpur? Is it somewhere you would like to visit?
